Smart Cities


Definition: 
A city is an interconnected system of systems and smarter cities will drive economic growth especially in the technological field.
A developed urban area that will create a sustainable economic environment with a high quality of life that will be created through Smart Cities.


Characteristics:
A smart city is RESILLIENT as it possesses the ability to grow and thrive from previous events; it has the ability to grow.
A smart city is SUSTAINABLE as it ensures that all aspects of life have the ability to continue to grow in the future, nothing will run out.
A smart city allows INTELLIGENT DECISION MAKING as all knowledge is combined through technology; this will make all information available and accessible. 
A smart city is INTEGRATED as all parts of life are utilised together as one.
A smart city is LIVEABLE as everybody will be able to thrive in it.  
A smart city promotes a HIGH QUALITY OF LIFE


Research and Development:
At this stage, smart cities are still being discussed and planned. IBM has said that in the next five years, the city that you live in will help you live in it. IBM annually announces 5 future technologies that will change the way in which we live. This year, future cities or smarter cities were one of them. (http://goo.gl/K8c7v1)



Many European countries have been ranked according to these different indicators in order to see how ‘smart’ they really were. (http://www.smart-cities.eu)

Conclusion:
I think that future cities will be smarter cities that will make day to day life easier for people. Our standard of living will be increased. All aspects of our daily lives will be more enjoyable and technology will play a huge role in our lives. Our personal information systems as well as how information systems are managed in businesses will be altered to make everything easier and more efficient.
